What is Random Acts of Kindness?

JCI Santa Clarita will be challenging our members and the wider community to perform Random Acts of Kindness in October. October is Emotional Wellness Month and Positive Attitude Month. Research shows that people’s mental health is improved by being kind to each other and being part of a community.

In October there are the following Kindness Holidays:

  • October 5th is National Do Something Nice Day
  • October 4th is World Smile Day
  • October 10th World Mental Health Day
  • October 22nd is Make A Difference Day
  • October 25th is National I Care About You Day

What is the challenge?

We will challenge our members, the wider community and our 40 Under Forty Award Nominees to perform Random Acts of Kindness. We will be sending bingo cards complete with suggested Random Acts of Kindness out to interested people.

We will be handing out joint awards with Santa Clarita Magazine for the “Ultimate Random Acts of Kindness”. We will want people to send in their photos to us and the Santa Clarita Magazine by emailing us at roakscv@gmail.com and tag @JCISantaClarita and @santaclaritamagazine. A judging panel will pick the winners.

JCI members will be given a wrapped donation box and a list of business and non profits. They need to work with the non profit on what that non profit needs. We hope to help 21 non profits to help celebrate out 21st Birthday.

Questions for Members:

I pick my non profit?

  • Yes you can if you wish. We want you to get to know them.
  • Some businesses may have a special relationship with a non profit so we will give you a choice to work with

How big is the box? How will I know what to ask for?

  • The boxes are standard size moving boxes.
  • They will be wrapped and will have signs on them explaining what donations are being asked for.
  • A flyer will also be emailed to you too so you can work with the business and post on your social media

How do I promote donations?

  • We would like you to promote at least weekly on social media. We would like you when you drop the box off to take a small video with the business owner so that they are recognized.
  • We will also promote you too on our social media. Please send your social media links to roakscv@gmail.com

What about money?

  • Donations are always welcome, particularly gift cards to Target and
  • The idea though is to get donations to the non profits that they need.

Are there other ways to help?

  • Yes, we would encourage you to perform random acts of kindness and to send them to us at roakscv@gmail.com
  • We invite you to our community pint night at Wolf Creek Brewery on October 29th from 6pm.
  • A % of proceeds will go to help Circle of Hope a local cancer charity and we will be performing random acts of kindness then (please see below)

I have dropped my box off. Now what?

  • We need you to connect with your business once a week to see if the box is full. We have asked the businesses to contact us too.
  • You will need to collect the donations, take them to the non profit and drop the empty box back off.
  • It can take some time for your box to get full so do not worry – keep promoting on social media and it will happen.
  • Please send your social media links to roakscv@gmail.com
  • We will send you details about your selected non profit and their social media links

What is the Circle of Hope event?

  • On October 29th young professionals will be hosting a Community Pint Night for Circle of Hope at Wolf Creek Brewery from 6pm.
  • We will be doing the following Random Acts Of Kindness at the event in addition to 10% of proceeds coming back to Circle of Hope.
  • Motivational cards to cancer patients and thank you cards to those who look after them
  • Care packages of nice chocolates and bubble bath / other nice toiletries
  • We are asking for bottles of water – Circle of Hope use a lot for their various classes and support groups at their Hope Wellness Center. We will be decorating them with inspiring, uplifting messages
